Subject & Purpose of the Program
The Chess in Primary Education Academic Training Course was launched in June 2024 in collaboration between the European Chess Union and The Centre of Training and Lifelong Learning (CTLL) of the University of the Aegean
The purpose of this Academic Training Course is to meet the growing demand for qualified educators in the field of Chess in Education. As chess is increasingly recognized as a valuable tool in education there is a clear need for well-trained teachers and tutors, as they play a pivotal role in empowering children for the demands of the 21st century. Providing a specialised training course, we aim to equip educators to use chess as an educational tool for shaping the minds of future generations.
Since the European Parliament published a Declaration on 15 March 2012 to encourage the introduction of “Chess in School” in the educational systems of the European Union, the Education Commission of the European Chess Union (ECU) is on the mission to promote Chess in Education (CiE), empower chess educators and support a range of related projects and initiatives. Throughout the years the Commission and its members has devised and developed a range of training courses for educators, created different educational materials, conducted research and surveys, participated in numerous Erasmus+ Project, collaborated with various CiE conferences and extended its support worldwide.

Who is this course for?
The course is aimed at teachers in Primary Education as well as those attending Teacher Training institutions. It is also suitable for chess tutors and educators who are interested in how chess can be used in education to develop children’s social, emotional and intellectual skills.

Accreditation
The course provides a lifelong Academic Certificate from the University of The Aegean. It is a recognized academic qualification of 320 hours through distance learning, making it accessible to educators worldwide. It’s designed as a comprehensive program that aligns with Continuing Professional Development standards and is recognised through the European Credit Transfer System. The Academic content constitutes 12.8 ECTS academic points and enables participants to transfer their learning credits across various educational institutions.

Course Objective
The teaching objective of the course is to provide a comprehensive overview of the different aspects of Chess in Education. We combine theory and practice to equip educators with the knowledge, skills and attitudes needed to deliver effective lessons using chess as an educational tool. The course is divided into 6 Units, each of them contributing towards a better understanding of the possibilities what chess can offer in the classroom.

Certification
Those who successfully graduate from the course will receive the ECU101 School Chess Teacher Certificate from the European Chess Union and the Academic Course Certificate from the University of the Aegean.

2. understand how to structure a lesson to introduce chess to beginners
3. learn about the history of chess
4. use storytelling to develop student’s social, emotional and intellectual skills
5. learn different pedagogical techniques to teach chess for educational purposes
6.develop an effective Annual Teaching Plan to enhance children’s 21st-century skills
7. develop the skills to create effective strategies for the teaching practice
8. form a deeper understanding about the impact that chess can make and is making in different areas including, but not limited to education, therapeutics, social integration, special needs…
9. learn about a rigorous overview of the research evidence regarding the benefits of chess and the reliability of research findings
10. understand how chess can be implemented in various domains
11. develop a focus on a particular research topic
12. discover what works best for each individual’s teaching practice.
13. choose the right fit for the students and each individual’s preferences
14. develop specialized expertise to promote Chess in Education
15. create practical project papers designed to promote Chess in Education
16. apply resources and strategies that are reusable for different audiences and portable across various educational settings

Methods of teaching and learning
The 20-week course is conducted in English, using the online Moodle platform. Students are expected to work independently, learn the course material at their own pace and time, and submit their assignments after each Unit. The content is delivered by interactive materials, course documents, research papers, live sessions, video instructions, external resources, references, project works and assignments.

Διδακτική ενότητα 1: How to play chess: rules and basic concepts
ΠεριγραφήIn Unit 1 educators learn the rules and basics of chess through puzzles, quizzes and game-play. For those who already know how to play chess, the lessons were designed to give useful ideas to be used in the classroom. These lessons also offer a practical guideline with a clear structure to be used as lesson plans for a session that educators can modify (simplify, complicate and extend) considering the age, ability and attitude of the children you teach.

Learning Outcome
You will learn the rules and basics of chess and its associated minigames and will understand how to structure a lesson to introduce chess to beginners.

Διδακτική ενότητα 5: Instructional Materials for the Classroom; Cross-Curricular Activities
ΠεριγραφήIn Unit 5 educators will be introduced to the CGS project with its different modules that provide instructional materials for the classroom for various ages that they can use in your teaching practice. Exploring different approaches will prepare educators to discover what works best for them and their students. The CGS project was founded by Erasmus+ where the European Chess Union was in partnership with organisations from Italy, Spain and Sweden.

Learning Outcome
Exploring different approaches to teaching chess will prepare you to discover what works best for your own teaching practice. Each method offers its strengths and by trying them out you'll be better equipped to choose the right fit for your students and your preferences. Remember, there’s no one-size-fits-all solution—what works well in one setting might not work in another, according to the school or group you are teaching. Keep experimenting, and you’ll find the approach that resonates most with you and your students.

Πολιτική Εκπτώσεων
Το Κ.Ε.ΔΙ.ΒΙ.Μ. διατηρεί το δικαίωμα να μεταβάλλει τα ποσοστά/ποσά και τις κατηγορίες των εκπτώσεων και λοιπών προσφορών επί των αρχικών τιμών των διδάκτρων, καθόλη τη διάρκεια του τρέχοντος Κύκλου Σπουδών χωρίς προηγούμενη ειδοποίηση. Οι όποιες αλλαγές δεν αφορούν τους/τις ήδη εγγεγραμμένους/νες.

Εγγραφή
Η «Αίτηση Εγγραφής» επέχει θέση Υπεύθυνης Δήλωσης και συνεπώς τα συμπληρωθέντα στοιχεία θα πρέπει να είναι αληθή και ακριβή ώστε τα εκδοθέντα Πιστοποιητικά Επιμόρφωσης, Βεβαιώσεις και λοιπά έγγραφα να είναι έγκυρα. Για οποιαδήποτε αναντιστοιχία προκύψει, το Κ.Ε.ΔΙ.ΒΙ.Μ. δεν υποχρεούται να επανεκδώσει τα ανωτέρω έγγραφα ενώ διατηρεί το δικαίωμα να το ανακαλέσει.

Εγκυρότητα υποβληθέντων δικαιολογητικών
Προκειμένου να τεκμηριώνεται η ισχύς των επιλεγμένων στη φόρμα εγγραφής εκπτώσεων, ο/η επιμορφούμενος/η οφείλει να αποστέλλει στη γραμματεία του εκάστοτε επιμορφωτικού προγράμματος τα σχετικά δικαιολογητικά, πριν την έναρξη του επιλεχθέντος Προγράμματος. Βάσει του άρθρου 28 του Ν.4305/2014, το Κ.Ε.ΔΙ.ΒΙ.Μ. δύναται να διενεργεί αυτεπάγγελτο έλεγχο της γνησιότητας των δικαιολογητικών που έχει υποβάλει ο/η επιμορφούμενος/η. Σε περίπτωση μη έγκαιρης αποστολής ή μη επιβεβαίωσης της εγκυρότητας των υποβληθέντων δικαιολογητικών, το Κ.Ε.ΔΙ.ΒΙ.Μ. διατηρεί το δικαίωμα της ανάκλησης της χορηγηθείσας έκπτωσης και να απαιτήσει την όποια προκύπτουσα χρηματική διαφορά καθώς και να ακυρώσει τυχόν έκδοση οποιαδήποτε Βεβαίωσης ή/και Πιστοποιητικού Επιμόρφωσης.

Υποχρεώσεις επισκέπτη/χρήστη
Ο/Η χρήστης/τρια της ιστοσελίδας, των εκπαιδευτικών πλατφορμών αλλά και των πλατφορμών τηλεδιάσκεψης οφείλει αφενός μεν να συμμορφώνεται με τους κανόνες και τις διατάξεις του Ελληνικού, Ευρωπαϊκού και Διεθνούς Δικαίου και τη σχετική νομοθεσία που διέπει τις τηλεπικοινωνίες, αφετέρου δε να απέχει από κάθε παράνομη και καταχρηστική χρήση του περιεχομένου και των υπηρεσιών της ιστοσελίδας. Ρητά διευκρινίζεται ότι δεν επιτρέπεται να παραχωρεί τους προσωπικούς κωδικούς πρόσβασης σε οποιοδήποτε τρίτο πρόσωπο. Επίσης, κάθε επισκέπτης / χρήστης της ιστοσελίδας οφείλει να συμπεριφέρεται κόσμια, ευγενικά και διακριτικά κατά τη διάρκεια χρήσης των ανωτέρω, ενώ απαγορεύεται η υιοθέτηση πρακτικών αθέμιτου ανταγωνισμού ή άλλων που αντίκεται στους κοινώς αποδεκτούς κανόνες συμπεριφοράς των χρηστών του Internet (Netiquette). Επιπλέον, οιαδήποτε ηθική ζημία ή ζημία φήμης προκληθεί απορρέουσα από την μη χρήση κόσμιας και διακριτικής συμπεριφοράς κατά την επικοινωνία του με τις επιμέρους ομάδες διδασκόντων, τεχνικής και διοικητικής υποστήριξης, είναι αποκλειστικά ευθύνη του χρήστη, και το Πανεπιστήμιο Αιγαίου δύναται να τον διαγράψει από μέλος της επιμορφωτικής του κοινότητας χωρίς οποιαδήποτε οικονομική αποζημίωση και επιστροφή διδάκτρων. Για οποιαδήποτε επισήμανση, παρατήρηση ή/και πρόταση, οι επιμορφούμενοι/ες θα πρέπει να απευθύνονται αποκλειστικά στις γραμματείες των επιμέρους επιμόρφωτικών προγραμμάτων ή στη γραμματεία του Κ.Ε.ΔΙ.ΒΙ.Μ.

Συμμετοχή στα μαθήματα & Έκδοση Πιστοποιητικών
• Δεν υφίσταται κανένας περιορισμός φύλου, φυλής, εθνικότητας, θρησκεύματος ή άλλη διάκριση στη συμμετοχή στα επιμορφωτικά προγράμματα του Κ.Ε.ΔΙ.ΒΙ.Μ.
• Η αποδοχή και η συμμετοχή των επιμορφούμενων προϋποθέτει την πλήρη εκ μέρους τους κατανόηση του και του εκάστοτε Οδηγού Προγράμματος
• Το Κ.Ε.ΔΙ.ΒΙ.Μ., διατηρεί το δικαίωμα να αναπροσαρμόζει το χρονοδιάγραμμα των μαθημάτων, τους/τις διδάσκοντες/ουσες καθώς και να αναβάλλει ή να ακυρώνει τη διάθεση Προγραμμάτων ενημερώνοντας τους/τις εγγεγραμμένους/ες
• Για την καλύτερη εξυπηρέτηση τους, οι επιμορφούμενοι/ες θα πρέπει κατά την επικοινωνία τους με το Κ.Ε.ΔΙ.ΒΙ.Μ. να αναφέρουν το ονοματεπώνυμο τους, τον ακριβή τίτλο του προγράμματος που συμμετέχουν, τον/την Ακαδημαϊκά Υπεύθυνο/η και την ημερομηνία έναρξης του προγράμματος.
• Εφόσον υφίστανται οικονομικής φύσης εκκρεμότητες, το Κ.Ε.ΔΙ.ΒΙ.Μ. διατηρεί το δικαίωμα να αναστέλλει προσωρινά ή/και να απενεργοποιεί την πρόσβαση των επιμορφούμενων στις ηλεκτρονικές πλατφόρμες σύγχρονης και ασύγχρονης μάθησης
• Η απονομή του Πιστοποιητικού Επιμόρφωσης προϋποθέτει τη συμμετοχή των επιμορφούμενων στις ανατεθείσες δραστηριότητες αξιολόγησης και βάσει των κριτηρίων αξιολόγησης που θέτει το εκάστοτε επιμορφωτικό πρόγραμμα
• Εφόσον υφίστανται οικονομικής φύσης εκκρεμότητες, δεν απονέμεται Πιστοποιητικό Επιμόρφωσης για καμία από τις επιμέρους Διδακτικές Ενότητες ενός Προγράμματος, αλλά ούτε για το σύνολο του Προγράμματος.
• Προϋπόθεση χορήγησης βεβαιώσεων πριν την ολοκλήρωση ενός επιμορφωτικού προγράμματος, είναι η εξόφληση τουλάχιστον μέρους των διδάκτρων αντιστοίχου των Διδακτικών Ενοτήτων που βεβαιώνεται ότι παρακολούθησε ο/η επιμορφούμενος/η.

Τεχνικές Προϋποθέσεις
Για τη συμμετοχή στην online επιμόρφωση απαιτούνται τουλάχιστον ένας σύγχρονος υπολογιστής και πρόσβαση στο διαδίκτυο.
Συγκεκριμένα, για τη βέλτιστη και απρόσκοπτη πρόσβαση και εργασία στο Σύστημα Ασύγχρονης και κυρίως της Σύγχρονης ηλεκτρονικής μάθησης, οι ενδιαφερόμενοι/ες προτείνεται να διαθέτουν τα εξής:
1. Σύγχρονο ηλεκτρονικό υπολογιστή που να διαθέτει multimedia δυνατότητες (μικρόφωνο, ηχεία ή ακουστικά, κάμερα).
2. Σύνδεση ADSL για πρόσβαση στο Διαδίκτυο, με ελάχιστη απαιτούμενη ταχύτητα σύνδεσης στο Διαδίκτυο 4 Mbps.
Είναι δυνατό ωστόσο να απαιτούνται από τα επιμέρους επιμορφωτικά προγράμματα και επιπρόσθετες τεχνικές προϋποθέσεις, εφόσον αυτό κρίνεται σκόπιμο για την ομαλή διεξαγωγή τους.

Πνευματική Ιδιοκτησία
Κάθε υλικό, εμπορικό σήμα ή λοιπή πνευματική ιδιοκτησία της παρούσας ιστοσελίδας αποτελεί περιουσιακό στοιχείο του Πανεπιστημίου Αιγαίου και υπάγεται στη σχετική νομοθεσία περί προστασίας της πνευματικής ιδιοκτησίας, με εξαίρεση τα ρητώς αναγνωρισμένα δικαιώματα τρίτων. Απαγορεύεται η αναπαραγωγή, η μετατροπή / αντιγραφή / ενοικίαση / δανεισμός / μετάδοση και εκπομπή του χωρίς σχετική άδεια. Κατ’ εξαίρεση, επιτρέπεται η μεμονωμένη αποθήκευση και αντιγραφή τμημάτων του περιεχομένου σε απλό προσωπικό υπολογιστή για αυστηρά προσωπική χρήση, χωρίς πρόθεση εμπορικής ή άλλης εκμετάλλευσης και πάντα υπό την προϋπόθεση της αναγραφής της πηγής προέλευσής του, χωρίς αυτό να σημαίνει κατά οποιονδήποτε τρόπο παραχώρηση δικαιωμάτων πνευματικής ιδιοκτησίας.

Μοριοδότηση Προγραμμάτων
Το Κ.Ε.ΔΙ.ΒΙ.Μ. δύναται στο πλαίσιο της προώθησης ενός προγράμματος, να ενημερώνει -συμβουλευτικά και μόνο- το ενδιαφερόμενο κοινό σχετικά με τη δυνατότητα αξιοποίησης ενός πιστοποιητικού επιμόρφωσης από πλευράς ενδεχόμενης μοριοδότησής του, βάσει του θεσμικού πλαισίου που ισχύει κατά την περίοδο της έναρξης του προγράμματος. Ωστόσο, η μοριοδότηση της επιμόρφωσης ως προσόν, εξαρτάται από τα εκάστοτε κριτήρια των προκηρύξεων/προσκλήσεων όπως αυτά καθορίζονται από τους φορείς που τις εκδίδουν κατά τη χρονική στιγμή της έκδοσης τους και οι ενδιαφερόμενοι/ες οφείλουν να επικοινωνούν με τους εν λόγω φορείς για διευκρινίσεις και φέρουν την αποκλειστική ευθύνη για τη διερεύνηση ζητημάτων μοριοδότησης.

Ακύρωση Προγραμμάτων-Επιστροφές Διδάκτρων
Τα επιμορφωτικά προγράμματα θα υλοποιούνται μόνο εφόσον έχει διασφαλιστεί ο απαιτούμενος αριθμός επιμορφούμενων.
Επιστροφή διδάκτρων είναι εφικτή μόνο σε εξαιρετικές περιπτώσεις και μόνο εφόσον ο/η αιτούμενος/η ενημερώσει γραπτά τη γραμματεία πριν την έναρξη του Προγράμματος ότι δεν επιθυμεί να παρακολουθήσει εκθέτοντας αναλυτικά τους λόγους διακοπής της επιμόρφωσης. Το έγγραφο αίτημα εξετάζεται από τον/την Επιστημονικά Υπεύθυνο/η του κάθε επιμορφωτικού προγράμματος και αποφαίνεται σχετικά. Στις περιπτώσεις αυτές και προκειμένου να μην επιβαρυνθεί με ενδεχόμενα τραπεζικά έξοδα ή έξοδα διαχείρισης του Ειδικού Λογαριασμού Κονδυλίων Έρευνας, δύναται να αιτηθεί πίστωση των διδάκτρων του για φοίτηση σε άλλο Πρόγραμμα της ίδιας επιμορφωτικής δράσης, δηλαδή σε Πρόγραμμα με τον/την ίδιο/α Επιστημονικά Υπεύθυνο/η. Το πιστωμένο ποσό σε περίπτωση που δεν εξαντληθεί, δεν επιστρέφεται, αλλά παραμένει στη διάθεση του/της συμμετέχοντα/ουσας για μελλοντική χρήση.
Σε περιπτώσεις απόφασης επιστροφής διδάκτρων, εάν η υπαιτιότητα της επιστροφής βαρύνει το Κ.Ε.ΔΙ.ΒΙ.Μ., η οφειλόμενη χρηματική διαφορά επιστρέφεται χωρίς καμία επιπλέον επιβάρυνση.
Σε περιπτώσεις μη υπαιτιότητας του Πανεπιστημίου Αιγαίου η όποια οφειλόμενη χρηματική διαφορά βαρύνει τον/την αιτούντα/ούσα, που επιβαρύνεται με τα όποια τραπεζικά έξοδα και επιπρόσθετα 10% με έξοδα διαχείρισης του Ειδικού Λογαριασμού Κονδυλίων Έρευνας.

Αξιολόγηση Προγράμματος
Συμμετοχή στην Αξιολόγηση Προγράμματος: Η συμπλήρωση του ανώνυμου Ερωτηματολογίου Αξιολόγησης Επιμορφωτικού Προγράμματος από τους εκπαιδευόμενους, στοχεύει στην διασφάλιση της ποιότητας των παρεχόμενων εκπαιδευτικών υπηρεσιών, σύμφωνα με τα οριζόμενα στο άρθρο 115 του ν. 4957/2022 και τον Κανονισμό Λειτουργίας του Κ.Ε.ΔΙ.ΒΙ.Μ. του Πανεπιστημίου Αιγαίου. Το ερωτηματολόγιο αναρτάται στην πλατφόρμα ασύγχρονης τηλεκπαίδευσης κατά τον τελευταίο μήνα υλοποίησης του προγράμματος, μαζί με την ενεργοποίηση της τελευταίας δραστηριότητας αξιολόγησης του προγράμματος. Η συμπλήρωση του ερωτηματολογίου είναι προαιρετική και εντάσσεται στις ακαδημαϊκές δραστηριότητες των εκπαιδευομένων.

Παράταση στις ακαδημαϊκές υποχρεώσεις
Τυχόν παράταση στις ακαδημαϊκές υποχρεώσεις των εκπαιδευομένων καθώς και η διαδικασία έκδοσης των πιστοποιητικών επιμόρφωσης για τους/τις εκπαιδευόμενους/ες που παρακολούθησαν επιτυχώς το πρόγραμμα, δεν μπορεί να υπερβαίνει τους έξι (6) μήνες από την, βάσει της απόφασης έγκρισης, ημερομηνία ολοκλήρωσης του προγράμματος. Σε εξαιρετικές περιπτώσεις, κατόπιν τεκμηριωμένου αιτήματος εκπαιδευόμενου/ης και αιτιολογημένης απόφασης του Συμβουλίου του Κ.Ε.ΔΙ.ΒΙ.Μ. μπορεί η προβλεπόμενη στο προηγούμενο εδάφιο παράταση να χορηγηθεί για χρονικό διάστημα έως ένα (1) έτος από την, βάσει της απόφασης έγκρισης, ημερομηνία ολοκλήρωσης του προγράμματος.
